Inspirational Visit to HMP Styal Women’s Prison
It was fascinating to see behind the locked doors of HMP Styal Women’s Prison, near Wilmslow, on a joint visit with Lancashire High Sheriff David Collinge and Merseyside High Sheriff Hazel Snell earlier this week.
This is a closed prison taking adult women and youth offenders aged 18 and over, from all over North West England. Originally a Victorian orphanage, the site includes workshops, a mother and baby unit, and accommodation in secure houses around the grounds.
All credit to the caring staff who are trying hard to help prisoners carve out new, positive pathways for life on the outside, after they’ve served their time.
