Three incredible Warrington charities helping local families
The Cheshire Community Foundation hosted me on a visit to three wonderful Warrington charities who are making a massive difference to adults with autism and learning disabilities, and families coping with special needs children.
Creating Adventures
Creating Adventures are based at Orford Community Hub, is an amazing social enterprise helping adults, who can’t cope with mainstream work, find fulfilment and engagement through a programme of art, singing, brass band music, dance and cookery sessions.
They’re a talented bunch – I was thrilled to be presented with a special artwork featuring a feathered hat – just like my High Sheriff’s hat with two ostrich feathers! Thank you so much!
Walton Lea Partnership
Based at a garden next to Walton Hall and Gardens, offers structured workshops and sessions for a similar cohort of adults with autism and learning disabilities. Their focus is on the outdoors, with sessions organised around learning crafts, woodwork, horticulture, upcycling bikes, wellbeing and life skills.
And this summer (until 31 August) they have received funding to help them create a fantastic Scarecrow Trail around their garden, which is open to the public. Don’t miss it – they even have a café!
Families United
Founded in 2003, offers around 10 engaging, supportive events a month to families who care for children with a wide range of disabilities. This wonderful programme of activities can include everything from swimming and wheelchair racing to a special dads club, Alright Lads.
They have even been given a large Lottery Grant recently to help them create a more permanent base for their charity – exciting times!
