Memorial to Mercian Regiment Soldiers killed in Afghanistan – unveiled in Chester Cathedral

Remembering 26 soldiers from the Mercian Regiment, who lost their lives serving on operations in Afghanistan (2007 – 2015). A new memorial has been unveiled in the regimental chapel of the 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment in Chester Cathedral.

The Mercian Regiment was formed in 2007, when the Cheshire Regiment was merged with the Staffordshire Regiment and the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment.

I was honoured to join with the Cheshire Lord Lieutenant, Lady Redmond, the Lord Mayor of Chester, Cllr Margaret Parker, and military colleagues past and present to mark the special occasion, in a moving service led by Chester Cathedral Dean Dr Tim Stratford.
