Fascinating Day in Chester Crown Court

His Honour Judge Steven Everett hosted me on a fascinating visit to Chester Crown Court last Friday.

I really enjoyed his guided tour of the beautiful neoclassical building, completed in 1801 and designed by prominent architect Thomas Harrison. The Court sits on the site of a previous Shire Hall, dating back to 1310. 

As Steven follows me as High Sheriff of Cheshire next April, it was particularly poignant to be with him to see all the name boards of the previous incumbents, dating back to Ranulphus Vicecomes in 1135. 

I got a real sense of the incredible history behind our High Sheriff role.

Sitting with him on the Bench, our court day was packed with 11 different sentencing and pre-trial hearings.

It was a wonderful and educational day in so many ways. Thank you to all the court staff for their kindness and hospitality.

I was very impressed with how the court runs so effectively – and the incredible juggling of vast quantities of information in the background.
