River Spectacle at Chester Regatta
Many congratulations to all the talented rowers (adults and young people) who won the 68 race events at Saturday’s fabulous Chester Regatta on the picturesque River Dee.
My husband and I were thrilled to be invited to join Chester Regatta chair, Jan Chillery, the Lord Mayor and Mayoress of Chester, Cllr Margaret Parker and her daughter Deborah Parker-Stubbings, and Chester South MP Aphra Brandreth to present trophies and enjoy a short, guided boat trip along the Dee to view the start-line.
The boating regatta is the oldest in the world and believed to have started on the River Dee way back in 1733, when Chester was a thriving port. To this day, it is all organised with incredible precision, with a succession of more than 200 individual heats and finals, starting every two minutes throughout a packed day of events!
What a treat!
